There are three real options for post-surgical accommodation in Colombia, and each works for a different kind of patient. The one that's right for you depends on what you're having done, who's coming with you, and how much support you want built into your stay.

Hotels: Comfort Without Complication

A standard 3- or 4-star hotel gives you daily housekeeping, a front desk that's always staffed, room service, and zero setup effort. You arrive, you recover, someone else handles the towels.

The downside is food flexibility. Without a kitchen, you're eating room service, delivery, or going out — and in the first 48 hours after surgery, none of those are ideal. Room service menus rarely account for post-op dietary needs (soft foods, low sodium, high protein), and you'll pay hotel prices for every meal.

Hotels work best for lighter procedures — LASIK, dental veneers, hair transplant — where you're mobile within 24 hours and eating normally within 48. For major cosmetic procedures, a hotel feels constraining by day three.

Aparthotels: The Flexible Middle

An aparthotel (or "apart-hotel" — the terminology varies) gives you a furnished apartment with a kitchen, living space, and typically a washer, combined with hotel-style services: a reception desk, optional housekeeping, and sometimes breakfast included.

For medical tourists, the kitchen is the deciding factor. Your companion can prepare soft foods, keep medications refrigerated, wash compression garments, and maintain a schedule that doesn't depend on room service hours. The living space means your companion has somewhere to sit that isn't the foot of your bed.

Aparthotels are the most popular choice among patients we've seen recovering from mid-range procedures — rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, tummy tucks, dental implant series. The combination of independence and backup support hits the right balance.

Typical 2026 nightly ranges for aparthotels suitable for recovery in Medellín run $50–100 USD, with Bogotá slightly lower at $45–90. Booking for 10–14 nights often unlocks weekly rates.

Recovery Houses: Built for Surgical Patients

Recovery houses are accommodation facilities specifically designed for post-surgical patients. At their best, they include a nurse on staff (or on call), post-op meal planning, help with compression garments and wound care, transportation to follow-up appointments, and rooms configured for limited-mobility patients.

The quality range is wide. Some recovery houses are staffed medical facilities with trained nurses and direct communication lines to your surgeon. Others are rebranded guesthouses that added "recovery" to their listing. There's no formal licensing category in Colombia for recovery houses, so vetting matters.
